Rows of pink hearts

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner I put together a list of my top favorite gifts that well… work all year round really. If you know me, you know I love food, which is why half of my gifts are edible. The other half just makes me feel good. So whether you’re spending the day with your Boo or practicing self-love because your worth isn’t tied up in other people’s validation… these ideas will get the job done.

Kala’s Ultimate Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

I narrowed my favorite things down to these six. Listed in order of importance, there’s wine, flowers, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, lipstick and binge watching ER. Any women would be happy with one – or all of these, so fellas, take note.

1) Estancia Pinot Noir

Red wine says romance. A glass of wine can help wind down a long day, relieve stress, and maybe even get you in the mood. 😉 Pinot Noir was born in the Burgundy region of France and has flavors of ripe red berries, sweet black cherries and hints of earth. Estancia is a very good wine with a great price point. It’s also a wine that goes well with all types of food, so pair it with your special dinner. You can find it in most of your local grocery stores.

Other good wines include: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec.

2) Red Roses

A classic never goes out of style. There’s something about a bouquet of red roses that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. A dozen long stem red roses will make any girl special. If you want bonus points – have them sent to her job.

3) Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Yummy! Eating fresh fruit is romantic – feeding your significant other, sexy. Finish dinner with a dozen chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. They can be ordered, picked up in a store or even made at home. For a budget-friendly option, follow these easy steps to home made chocolate covered strawberries:

  1. Coarsely chop 4 ounces of semisweet chocolate. Then wash and dry 1 lb. of strawberries.
  2. Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and cook in 30-second intervals stirring in-between until melted.
  3. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip it in chocolate at an angle and place it on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  4. If you’d like to get fancy, add sprinkles or drizzle white chocolate on top.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill for at least 30 minutes. They will keep for up to 3 days, covered and chilled.

4) Cheryl’s Cookies

I absolutely love sugar cookies and Cheryl’s cookies are delicious. I recently sent a dozen to my sister who lives in Virginia and just had a baby. Cheryl’s offers gift sets for all occasions. Last time I checked they had last minute Valentine’s Day specials too. It’s a nice gesture, especially if your bae is long distance. I love getting packages in the mall. I even thought about sending myself a box lol (is that too much?).

5) NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils

So this one is really specific, only because I just bought this NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Duo yesterday from Sephora and it is THE TRUTH! If you can’t tell from my earlier post on “What’s In My Makeup Bag”, issa problem. But many of my fellow fashionistas love lipstick too. The duo shades I bought were Damned/Walkyrie and Magenta/Warm Coral Red Cream. At only $20.00 for two lipsticks, it’s a no brainier. If your unsure of your lady’s hue a Sephora gift card will do just fine.

6) ER

Hulu just bought the entire series of ER and I’ve been streaming it from season one! Normally I’m not into hospital drama’s but I’m all-in on this one. ER chronicles life and death in a Chicago hospital emergency room. The show debuted in 1994 and ran for 15 seasons. ER won a Golden Globe and multiple Primetime Emmy Awards. And 331 episodes make it totally binge worthy!

If you’re feeling a little lonely this Valentine’s Day there’s plenty of heartthrobs to keep you going. How about a young George Clooney? I personally have a huge crush on Eriq La Salle AKA Dr. Benton. He can be extremely arrogant, but there’s a soft spot in there and I’m willing to uncover it. 1990’s Dr. Peter Benton – Holla at cha’ girl!
