So that happened…
Hello! This is my very first blog post and I’m pretty happy about it (Insert geeked emoji face). If you read my intro page you would know I recently bought my first home. My closing date was January 6th. I moved in that same weekend and unpacked just enough to find clean clothes to wear to work on Monday. I went from a cluttered 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom 1.5 bathroom house.
One of the main factors in my decision to buy was that I felt like I was throwing money away renting. Plus, in my market, I could buy and have a similar monthly payment with twice the square footage! I’m also getting older and felt like it was the “adult” thing to do. Any way you slice it, it was the right place at the right time.
I’m definitely happy with my decision to buy, BUT I was really doubting it in week one! A few days into it there was a pretty big wind storm complete with rain and hail. The sound of hail hitting my windows kept me up that night. As soon as I dozed off there was this huge boom, a flash of light and puppy going crazy. I look out of my bedroom window to see a tree had fallen in my backyard. The entire tree. Roots and all. I didn’t know what to do!
In the morning, I had to call the electric company. I had to call an electrician. Then finally, I had to call a tree service. $2,240.00 dollars later… I’m thinking, “What did I get myself into?!?”. I had to use my homeowners insurance the first week of living here. Why didn’t I just wait another week? Why me? Why now? Not to mention I was without power and heat – in January – for 24 hours. But in reality, I’m so lucky the tree just missed my car by a few feet. Missed my garage and my house. It could have been a lot worse. The Universe was looking out for me.
In the end, it tested my will. It tested my patience. It tested my bank account. But I still think it was a good decision to buy. And now I’ve paid my dues, so nothing else is going to break (fingers crossed). You have to speak it into existence right! LOL.
